Seasonal kanzashi

Here's a drawing I did some years back of all the different styles of seasonal kanzashi worn by the maiko. As you can see, there's a huge variety of spectacular styles! They are based on the flowers that are in bloom at that time of year, or on other seasonal items. Here are those for May and November in a bit more detail. You can see for May, on the left, flag irises in purple and pink, and on the right trailing wisteria flowers, also in shades of purple and pale pink, with silver butterflies. For November there are autumn leaves (momiji) in shades of vibrant yellow and red. And of course there are the fluttering metal bira-bira at ant time of year!
